2008 Canungra Cup paragliding competition

The 2008 Canungra Cup paragliding competition lived up to it's reputation as the most enjoyable paragliding competition of the Australian season. The field of over 75 pilots comprised all of Australia's top pilots as well as a good number of internationals. The conditions ranged from tough struggles with low cloudbases and light climbs, to strong convective days with high bases. Tasks ranged between 38km and 86km with the last day being a classic "over the range" day seeing over 32 in goal (the first ever paragliding comp task over Australia's "Great Dividing Range". Many happy faces beamed out of the goal bus on the way home, probably the happiest being Canungra local Andrew Cooper who made the first ever crossing of the "Range" by a DHV 1-2 flying his Zulu Medium.
Coming into the final task the results were in no way a certainty and a final task showdown between Boomerang 5 pilots Craig Collings and Gant Middendorf (Middy) battling it out for the ultimate prize. But as luck would have it, Middy landed short allowing Craig to take his well deserved position at the top of the podium.
Middy finished a very credible 2nd while Boomerang 5's and Boomerang Sports made up the bulk of the top ten places.

Gin pilots in the top 10 were:
1st. Craig Collings. Boomerang 5
2nd. Grant Middendorf. Boomerang 5
7th. Matt Senior. Boomerang 5
8th. Fred Gungl. Boomerang 5
9th. Dave Snowden. Boomerang 5
10th. Jason Turner. Boomerang Sport
